Child Care Bureau is an Independent Fostering Agency based in the West Midlands, providing high quality foster care for children and young people across the UK. We are committed to improving the life chances for children and young people by offering many different types of foster care.

What does Fostering mean?

There are many children who require substitute care because their families cannot look after them. The situations the children find themselves in are always beyond their control. They may have been physically, emotionally or sexually abused or have been abandoned or neglected by their birth parents. Or it may simply be because of relationship problems, family breakdown or illness.

Whatever the situation - these children require love, care and stability from people who will encourage them to fulfil their potential and benefit from opportunities provided. Fostering is being able to offer a child or young person a safe and secure home within which they can develop and thrive.

Characteristics of a Foster Carer

• An understanding and ability to relate to children and adolescents
• A genuine affinity with children and an ability to make them feel welcome and safe
• An ability to work and engage with a child’s birth family
• A willingness not give up on a child even if the going gets tough
• A willingness to care for a wide age range
• The ability to guide, advise and help children to manage their day to day lives
• To be able to set clear boundaries and establish appropriate expectations for a child’s behaviour
• A good sense of humour and ability to work as a team member
• Commitment to training in order to develop the skills to foster
• Able to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
